The Top 4 Programming Languages to Learn This Year

The top 4 programming languages to learn this year.

Ever wonder how apps in your phone work? Or how websites know just what you are looking for? Well, there's a magic behind that, you know, it's called programming. And if you're interested in entering the world of coding, you're on the right site.

Remember the day when Rahul friend decided to learn programming. He was scratching his head, how many languages? How many languages could there be? It's then you will know that lots of folks feel just the same. So, I've compiled this list to help you know what programming languages to invest in 2024 and beyond.

1. The Beginner's Best Friend: Python. The Beginner's Best Friend: Python.

When you're beginning, Python is like that helpful senior that leads you through college. Easy to read, easy to learn and fun!

The key to Python's popularity is its versatility. You can do everything from developing websites and analysing data to developing AI applications and automating repetitive tasks using Python. Python is widely used by Netflix, Spotify, Instagram and Google. Python is essentially the language of choice for two of the most popular hottest jobs out there these days, data science and machine learning.

In India, there is a huge demand for Python developers. When it comes to finding startup jobs, Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi are always in demand. The pay is also top-notch.

The course is ideal for:

 2. The Internet is built with JavaScript – The Language of the Internet.

When you are looking to create interactive web sites or mobile apps, then the language of choice is JavaScript. For anyone interested in web development's, it is practically a fact of life.

These are buttons that change colour when hovered over, forms that validate the information you enter, smooth animations, etc. – these are all instances of JavaScript. It's the link between the screen and the background.

JavaScript can be used for front-end development (what users see) AND back-end development (what happens on the server). User interfaces can be built super-fast and super responsive using frameworks such as React or Vue. You can use JavaScript to create entire servers in Node.js.

With the outbreak of the pandemic and everyone having to work remotely, companies suddenly required the help of JavaScript developers to construct more efficient online platforms. This has snowballed. JavaScript developers are creating a robust online presence for every business. It is easy to learn, and benefits are apparent in a short amount of time.

Ideal for: Web Developers, Front end Specialists, Full stack Web Developers, Interactive website builders.

  3. List is Java which is the industry standard.

You can relate to the experience while making purchases on Flipkart and checking your bank balance. Likely Java is running on those systems.

Java has withstood the test of time for decades, and is unlikely to die anytime soon. It can be used to run large enterprise apps that process millions of transactions per day. For stability and good salaries, Java can't be beat!

The most powerful attribute of Java is the concept of "write once, run anywhere. You write the code once, and it runs on any device or operating system, whether mobile, laptop or tablet. It's similar to writing instructions that are universal.

While it's a more complicated that Python or JavaScript to begin with, once you have mastered it, you'll see why so many companies rely on it. The salary packages of the Java developers in India are outstanding, particularly in IT firms and multinational companies. Java is being used by banks, insurance companies, e-commerce and government organisations. Your job opportunities are really good.

Ideal for:  Enterprise applications, career-oriented students, mobile development and large scale systems.

 4. C++ Power and Performance

The C++ programming language is similar to the athlete of the computer world: it is very strong, but needs a lot of training.

C++ is for building games, developing operating systems, or creating systems which must operate very quickly. It provides direct control of computer memory and resources to get the maximum optimisation. If time is crucial, C++ is your best friend.

C++ is widely used in many popular games. C++ is a critical part of the Unreal Engine, the system that powers some of the world's best games. C++ is an excellent language to learn if you are interested in game development.

The downside? Programming in C++ is challenging. A working knowledge of memory management, pointers, etc. is required. Most people don't begin with C++ as their first language, it's typically a second or third language after Python.

If you are willing to do the work, C++ skills are much appreciated. Skilled C++ developers are always in demand in companies which develop software for performance critical applications.

Best suited for:  Game Developers, system programmers, performance critical applications, and experienced developers

Tidy up the floor and put everything away.

Go (also known as Golang) is a younger language from Google that's taking off in a big way.

Simplicity and power is what Go is all about. It's easier to learn than C++ but more powerful than Python in some aspects. It's geared toward new problems such as scalable web servers and cloud applications.

Companies have shifted to Cloud Computing and Microservices making Go relevant. These days, Companies have shifted to Cloud Computing and Microservices, making Go relevant. It is extremely fast, efficient, and suitable for creating systems which deal with massive traffic. For important parts of critical infrastructure, companies like Uber, Netflix, and Twitch rely on Go.

I also enjoy the syntax and error handling capabilities of Go. It will force you to write maintainable code. This is big news in the real world. The demand for Go developers is increasing quickly. It is not as popular as Java or Python, so there will be less competition, which may work out in your favor.

Most suitable:  Startups, scalable Web services, backend development, cloud applications

Which One to Take?

If you are brand new to programming, I would recommend Python as an introduction. Learn the fundamentals. After that, choose your second language, either based on web development, games, enterprise applications or cloud systems.

Have no fear of choice. Each language acquired is an easier transition to the next. Concepts are the same, syntax will vary.
